JBL 4655 speakers (15” LF drivers) (serial numbers 10480 & 10490)

Some have described the 4655 as follows "...if Klipsch Cornwall and Heresy had a baby." We agree, and here's our take:

--Efficiency and Sensitivity: Both the Cornwall and Heresy speakers are known for their high efficiency and sensitivity. The 4655 inherits this trait, and is capable of producing relatively loud and dynamic sound with relatively low power.

--Horn-Loaded Tweeter and Midrange: The Klipsch Heresy features a horn-loaded tweeter and midrange driver, which are known for their directivity and clarity. The 4655 speaker incorporates similar horn-loaded drivers to provide precise and detailed high and mid frequencies.

--Larger Woofer: The Cornwall, on the other hand, is known for its larger woofer, which can deliver deeper bass compared to the Heresy. Blending these characteristics, the 4655 speakers feature a 15" woofer that's larger than the Heresy's and reproduces a balanced bass response.

--Imaging and Soundstage: Both the Cornwall and Heresy are known for creating a wide and immersive soundstage. The 4655 speaker maintains and even enhances this characteristic, providing a spacious and realistic listening experience.

--Cabinet Design: The design of the speaker cabinet also plays a significant role in the overall sound. The 4655 speaker adopts design elements from both models to strike a balance between the Cornwall's larger, floor-standing cabinet and the Heresy's smaller form factor.

Ultimately, the 4655 speaker's sound is a unique amalgamation of the two iconic models, offering a compelling blend of their respective strengths.

Amplifier Pairing: we feel that the speakers perform beautifully with solid state and tube amplification. That said, the speaker's high-sensitivity and upgraded crossover components (AudioCap Theta 3.0uF 200V Film/Foil Capacitors) are equally suited to being paired with a tube amplifier, and will produce a fuller, warmer, holographic sound.
