Doors, The - Morrison Hotel Sessions (RSD2021)
Released in conjunction with its 50th anniversary, the Doors' classic album Morrison Hotel was expanded to include a bevy of previously unreleased rarities and outtakes from the studio sessions. Eschewing the more elaborately psychedelic sound of 1969's The Soft Parade, the band's back-to-basics fifth effort benefitted from a certain spontaneity and return to their blues-rock roots. Much of what is included here offers listeners a fly-on-the-wall experience as the band works through emerging arrangements of cuts like "Queen of the Highway" and "Roadhouse Blues" while bantering on-mike amongst themselves and with engineer Bruce Botnik. Originally released as part of the 50th anniversary version in 2020, The Morrison Hotel Sessions got its first vinyl pressing a year later as part of a Record Store Day exclusive.
