On this excellent and, frankly, unexpected gem, Post Malone shows just how big of a Nirvana fan he truly is with an exciting set of singles and deep cuts (but no "Teen Spirit"!) performed with the respect and precision that such a bold move requires. Backed by guitarist and producer Nick Mac, bassist and pop songwriter Brian Lee, and drummer Travis Barker (doing his absolute best to match Dave Grohl's muscular attack), Posty howls, growls, and croons with his signature vocal quiver, pushing his voice in ways that even his own forays into rock and country haven't stretched. The ragtag group's takes on well-known tracks like "Come as You Are," "Heart Shaped Box," and "In Bloom" don't come off as just "covers," they're executed in a way that sounds (forgive the potential blasphemy) as if this quartet wrote the songs themselves. Elsewhere, unhinged highlights such as "School," "Breed," and "Stay Away" unleash a raucous punk fervor that'll have listeners hoping for a full Post-punk album in the future. Filmed at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown in April 2020, proceeds from the livestream benefited the World Health Organization, while proceeds from the 2025 vinyl release Tribute to Nirvana went to MusiCares' Addiction Recovery/Mental Health division.
