Rudimentary Peni's early EPs were ordinary anarchist punk, containing little of the over-the-top rage fantasies of Death Church and Cacophony. Fortunately, relevant precursors or not, these releases were throttling and brash, shamelessly self-explanatory, and fond of intense speed shifts as they tottered over a pre-grindcore method of handling near chaos. Songs had two ways of ending: a quick, clipped dead halt or a screamy mess, as if the bandmembers had just dropped their instruments to the floor and walked away. That said, there wasn't a whole lot to Rudimentary Peni at this point. The band's main draw, its obsessive, absurdist qualities, had yet to break the surface.
