Tyler Childers' sixth long-player is a stripped-down affair featuring co-production by Rick Rubin that relies on traditional Appalachian instrumentation -- banjo, fiddle, mandolin, and upright bass -- to support the Kentucky native's poignant and intimate storytelling. Rooted in themes of nature, faith, isolation, addiction, and personal transformation, the 13-song set, which includes the streaming hits "Oneida" and "Nose on the Grindstone," combines Childers' alchemical blend of country, bluegrass, and folk with rich gospel harmonies and immersing ambient field recordings.
